Guides / Know your worth
Find out what your work is worth
Use several sources and land on a range, not a single number.
A raise or offer conversation goes better when you know what people in your role, level and area are paid. No single source is perfect, so combine a few.
Where to look
- Pay ranges in job postings for similar roles (more and more postings include them)
- Government data such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational pay figures
- Salary survey sites, comparing several
- Professional associations' salary surveys
- Recruiters and people in your field you trust
Turn it into a range
- Match on role, level, industry and location
- Write down the low, middle and high you see
- Place yourself honestly in that range based on experience and results
